Important School Calendar Changes for November 2018

Important Note: There was an error on the calendar published by the archodiocese, and provided to parents, at the begining of the school year indicating that the children were off Friday, November 9, 2018.  The correct day off is Monday, November 12, 2018. See November Calendar

CELEBRATION OF THE SIXTIES!

I hope all our Sacred Heart families are enjoying a wonderful and restful summer vacation. In just a few weeks we will reconvene to begin another fabulous school year.

2018-2019 brings us a new school year of celebration of our commitment to academic excellence and our Catholic mission of service to our community.  It was 65 years ago that Sacred Heart opened its doors for the first time to Catholic families in the Covina area. Today, our borders and influence has grown to include families from all over  the San Gabriel Valley.  This year, SHS will celebrate our 65th year of commitment to Catholic education.   In June, 2018, our school community realized overwhelming success in receiving a full 6 year accreditation good through June 30, 2024, from the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) accrediting commission.  In addition, we will salute the sixties in our celebration of our beloved Monsignor Brian Cavanagh’s 60th anniversary to the priesthood. Mark your calendars for September 9th when both Sacred Heart School and the parish community come together to honor Fr. Brian in a reception at Cavanagh Hall following the 12:00PM Mass.

CHANGES IN THE CLASS ROOM:

I’d like to welcome our amazing Sacred Heart faculty and staff back to school.  Coming into this new school year, SHS has made a few changes.  We say good bye to two teachers who have moved on into new career directions; our prayers and best wishes go to Mrs. Sara Davis and Mr. Greg Governale.  At this time, I’d like to welcome Mrs. Jessica Robles to grade one and to Mrs. Shirley Venti who will move to grade 5 this year.   I would also like to extend a very special SHS welcome to Mrs. Lisa Diaz, who comes to us with many years’ teaching experience, most recently from St. Josephs in Pomona and Pomona Catholic Middle School. Mrs. Diaz will be this year’s 4th grade teacher. Finally, I am very happy to announce that Mrs. Elaine Measer will be our Junior High Math and Science teacher, and while Mrs. Montesanti continues to teach math, she will also teach Social Studies to both grades 7 & 8.  I look forward to a wonderful new school year of exciting learning opportunities and faith-filled experiences for our Sacred Heart school community.

Dear Sacred Heart Families,
Thank you for your support in our First Summer Movie Under the Stars event.   So many families turned out for this fun evening!   We had just over 100 attendees!!!!  It was wonderful to see all our Sacred Heart families. And, we were so happy to welcome many of our new families that attended last night as well. We are looking forward to another great year of events at Sacred Heart.
It is also important to mention that there are approximately 60 days to left before our next big event; the Sacred Heart School Festival!  We are still looking for Sponsors (Monetary or Product) and have numerous Festival positions available. Parents, we need your help to make sure this year's festival is a success!  Keep in mind that the school festival is a great opportunity for you to complete your service hour commitment for this school year. Please contact me if you are interested in volunteering.  I am looking forward to working together with you; ALL festival proceeds go directly to our school community and will benefit our children's education!!!
Sincerely,
Desiree Marquez
